Participants in this course will be introduced to the basic principles of rope/vertical rescue and to the basic equipment used to implement rope/vertical rescues. The basic skills needed to operate at the awareness level include scene size up, hazard assessment, understanding mechanical advantage systems, reference materials, incident types, resource capabilities, operational procedures, understanding PPE, software and hardware associated with rope rescue. The Rope Rescue Awareness Course will provide students with the knowledge and skills to operate at the NFPA 1006 (2021), Rope Rescue Awareness Level (Chapter 5.1). Prerequisites: None. Student Equipment/Supply Needs: Note taking supplies, Instructor provided handouts, rescue style helmet, gloves, eye protection, and sturdy ankle supporting footwear and Jones & Bartlett Rope Rescue: Principles and Practice, Fifth Edition (required)
