Introduction to Small Animal Rescue (SMAR): Our CART teams are being activated for more small animal rescues than ever before. How does Small Animal Rescue differ from Large Animal Rescue? Learn about some of the tools, equipment, PPE, the types of incidents. Oxygen Administration, Safety & Concerns: This class will also teach the application of oxygen for both people and animals. *For EMS personal ConEd credit will be awarded. Pet First Aid & CPR: Workshop will address the most common pet emergencies a First Responder may encounter. We will cover CPR & Rescue Breathing. smoke inhalation, burns, bleeding & wound care, assessing vitals, and other common medical emergencies. Dog Bite Prevention for First Responders: We will cover reading canine body language, what to do when you get to a scene with dogs, and how to protect yourself from a dog or pack attack. Hands-On: Using Tools & Equipment: We will cover proper use of the catchpole, leash pole, Y-pole, snappy snare, throw net, traps, cat grabbers and other tools. Small Animals in Sticky Situations: Animals get themselves into some tricky situations that require our assistance. Learn about some situations you may encounter, when CART members can assist the animal and when they should call for expert help. Lost Pet Recovery: Learn how to help people recover their lost dog or cat after disasters, emergencies or just everyday lost pet situations. 14 Hours, 1.4 CEUs, Student Requirements: Note taking material Prerequisites: “PART Unit One: ICS Review/CART’s Role”: 1-hour online training and “NACA Field Services: Using Tools & Equipment”: 1-hour online training.
