LAR Awareness Level for First Responders: First Responders and CART members are continuously activated for incidents involving Large Animals. This 2-day training will be focused on equine but can be adapted for other large animals apart from felines. We will review equine history, body language, vitals, cover the equipment used in LAR, techniques, and pre-incident planning. We will cover in-detail ropes and rigging used in LAR and placing the equipment on the animal. There will be hands-on exercises that will safely demonstrate the use of the equipment, and the following scenarios. Catching a loose horse, a horse down in a stall, and a horse down in a trailer and a horse down in a ravine. This training is a prerequisite for Technical Large Animal Response (TLAR) Operations level. 14 Hours, 1.4 CEUs, Student Requirements: Note taking material, steel toe boots, hand and eye protection, & pants. Prerequisites: “PART Unit One: ICS Review/CART’s Role”: 1-hour online training. This course is approved for 16 hours of Continuing Education by the PA State Board of Veterinary Medicine.
