2024 Version This course will provide an awareness-level of information and skills as it pertains to vehicle rescue incidents. Topics will include general vehicle rescue function/operation; incident management of the vehicle accident/rescue incident; vehicle anatomy, design, and construction; recognition and control of hazards relative to a vehicle accident/rescue incident; and the tools and equipment used at a vehicle accident/rescue incident. Course Goal: The goal of this course is to provide the student with an awareness level of knowledge and skills necessary to respond to and function at a vehicle accident/rescue incident in accordance with NFPA 1670: Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents. Prerequisites: Minimum age: 16 years old at start of course and HMA/R. Student Equipment & Supplies: Pen/Pencil, Notebook, and PPE. Total hours = 16, CEUs = 1.6

Please read:  Location: WCCC-PSTC, 65 Public Safety Drive, Smithton, PA 15479 • Starts: Sunday, October 27 at 8 a.m. • Sunday, October 27, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., & Monday, & Wednesday, October 28 & 30, 6-10 p.m. Special Note: The Pennsylvania State Fire academy is changing the vehicle rescue series in the fall of 2024 and going from a 44-hour program to a 60-hour program. The new series will be Vehicle/Machinery Rescue – Awareness (16-hrs), Operations (28-hrs), & Technician (16-hrs) level. This new program is to include, but not confirmed at this time to include two (2) different certification versions 1) Department of Health Technician (currently offered) and/or Pro Board Certification for Vehicle/Machinery Rescue I. Please Note – we have not received all the information at this time, and the fall schedule and title is subject to change when the final version is released. We have requested to pilot the Pro Board certification in the fall as well, but no guarantees can be made due to multiple training facilities requesting this certification at one time. For those completing the PSTC series, the new piloted Pro board will be provided for free at this time, except for material fees. Material fees have yet to be determined at this time.
